Top gainers & losers today, 5 June: Eternal, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank, Reliance, Adani Ports

Eternal Healthcare, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd., ICICI Bank Ltd., Reliance Industries Ltd., and Adani Ports & SEZ Ltd. were among the top gainers on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., Bajaj Finance Ltd., Bajaj Finserv Ltd., Axis Bank Ltd., and IndusInd Bank Ltd. closed as the top laggards.

Equity benchmarks ended Thursday’s session with notable gains, as investors turned optimistic ahead of the Reserve Bank of India’s monetary policy announcement on Friday. The BSE Sensex rose 443.79 points or 0.55 per cent to close at 81,442.04, while the NSE Nifty gained 130.70 points or 0.53 per cent to settle at 24,750.90.

The Nifty opened flat at 24,691 and dipped to 24,613 in early trade, but staged a strong recovery through the mid-session, touching a high of 24,899 before cooling off slightly due to profit-taking. The Sensex followed a steady upward trajectory throughout the day, opening at 81,196.08 and ending near the highs.

Top Gainers

Eternal Healthcare topped the charts with a 4.50 per cent rally, ending at ₹256.55. Power Grid gained 1.96 per cent to ₹294.25, continuing its steady momentum.

ICICI Bank advanced 1.65 per cent to ₹1,454.75, supported by positive institutional flows. Reliance rose 1.37 per cent to ₹1,442.65, while Adani Ports added 1.35 per cent to ₹1,456.15.

Top Losers

IndusInd Bank led the losers’ pack, falling 1.41 per cent to ₹803.10. Axis Bank slipped 1.06 per cent to ₹1,158.65.

Bajaj Finserv declined 0.63 per cent to ₹1,943.50, followed by Bajaj Finance, which was down 0.57 per cent at ₹8,933.00. Maruti Suzuki edged 0.34 per cent lower to ₹12,123.40.

Market breadth remained in favour of advances, with broader indices outperforming. The Nifty Midcap 100 gained 0.65 per cent and the Nifty Smallcap 100 climbed 0.96 per cent, reflecting strength beyond the large-cap space. The day’s tone was set by optimism surrounding the RBI’s upcoming decision, coupled with positive momentum in select index heavyweights.
